Nothing in the history of boxing oddities seems to come close to what happened last Saturday night at the Auditorio Municipal in Tijuana, Mexico. Super lightweight boxer Angel Fierro squared off against Guadalajara’s Abraham Cordero in a 10-round boxing match inside a small hall.

Fierro, 23-4, was the clear favorite heading into the fight, but boxing doesn’t play favorites. Surprisingly, Cordero, 16-6-2, was getting the better of his more successful opponent. However, things devolved into utter madness in the 3rd round of the fight. Fierro grew frustrated and trapped his opponent in the corner, but when the bell rang, the unthinkable happened.

Angel Fierro gets instantly disqualified in boxing match

Despite the break, the 27-year-old tried to land a right hand on his opponent. Seeing this, the referee jumped into action to separate both fighters, screaming instructions at them. However, ‘Tashiro’ Fierro had already decided what he was going to do. He lunged at ‘Bombi’ Cordero, yet failed to do any damage.

His 30-year-old opponent, however, landed a clean left hook in retaliation, as chaos erupted. Fierro attacked his opponent with fury, launching several punches before kicking Cordero in the groin. Security, meanwhile, didn’t waste much time, as they invaded the ring to separate the two fighters.

Fierro was dragged back to his corner to be restrained, while Cordero collapsed in pain. Medical attention was not far away, but Cordero lay on the spot for a while. When he finally stood up, he was declared the winner, and Fierro was disqualified from the fight. The clip of the incident quickly went viral on social media.

Haymakers on Instagram shared it on the platform, writing, “Ignored the ref, got hit, threw a terrible kick, got DQed 🤣. Angel Fierro had a rough night.” When fans got their hands on it, the demands came in quickly.

Fierro faces mockery and backlash over kicking incident

The 27-year-old faced the brunt of public scrutiny. One user demanded that Fierro’s license be taken away. “Amateur behaviour… take his license,” the user wrote. It’s currently unclear whether any serious action has been taken against the boxer.

Someone else thought Fierro wanted to be removed from boxing. “Bro was like, ‘how do I get banned?’” the user commented. At least, now, no one can say Cordero defeated him since he was disqualified.

Another user advocated for suspension. “Take his license and send him to the BKFC 😂😂,” the user commented. But even in BKFC, kicking is not allowed. Is this a jibe calling the bare-knuckle promotion a B-league for boxers?

Meanwhile, others mocked the 27-year-old. “If you’re going to get disqualified for kicking, at least throw a proper kick effectively against your opponent,” the user wrote. Despite the weak kick, Cordero did need medical attention.

The next user had something similar to say. “Weak a— kick lmao,” the user wrote.

In the end, Angel Fierro might just have ruined his boxing career while giving Abraham Cordero some significant media attention. What did you think about the incident? What should be done with Fierro?
