Canelo Alvarez is boxing’s biggest draw. Many top-notch names have labeled him as the face of boxing and his recent loss to Russian pugilist Dmitry Bivol has changed nothing. Alvarez made it to the top-10 highest-paid athletes across all sports and has surpassed the likes of debatable NBA Goat, LeBron James, and multi-time Ballon D’Or winner Lionel Messi.

According to Sportico, Canelo is number 5 on the highest-paid athletes’ list. He made $84 million through salary and $5 million from endorsements, taking his combined income to $89 million.

The top two on the list are LeBron James and Lionel Messi. While Alvarez is behind them, he has overtaken their on-field salaries ($36.9million and $72 million, respectively) by a handsome margin.

Over the last few months, Canelo has seen his stock soar, resulting in some of the biggest paydays of his career. Per reports, he clinched a $40 million guaranteed purse for a fight against then IBF super middleweight titlist Caleb Plant.

Along with that, Canelo made a whopping $35 million for a unified super-middleweight clash against English pugilist Billy Joe Saunders.
