This year marks a significant milestone for Canelo Alvarez, as he prepares to step into the ring for the tenth time in his career on the Cinco de Mayo weekend, a tradition he’s upheld for four consecutive years. With an impressive record in these bouts standing at 8-1, Alvarez’s only setback came at the hands of Dmitry Bivol. The spotlight intensified recently when a Twitter post emerged, captioned: “Canelo has Sulecki and Agbeko in Camp for Munguia 🥊🥊,” showcasing Alvarez training with Joseph Agbeko and Maciej Sulęcki.

Joseph Agbeko, a former bantamweight world champion, brings a wealth of experience and a record of resilience to Alvarez’s camp. With a career spanning victories and championship belts, Agbeko’s robust record of 38-5 and seasoned tactics are invaluable assets. Meanwhile, Maciej Sulęcki, known for his challenging title bout and commendable boxing record of 31-2, contributes a blend of agility and strategic prowess. Both these fighters rock the orthodox stance, same as Jaime Munguia.

David Benavidez didn’t mince words in his retort to Canelo Alvarez, highlighting his readiness and determination to challenge the champion. “I’m not scared of nobody. I’ve hurt everybody that’s been in front of me and Canelo is no different. And I will hurt him too and I’ll take all his belts,” Benavidez stated confidently.

He further criticized Canelo’s financial demands, “It’s crazy that he asked for 150 million or 200 million to fight me,” questioning the logic behind such figures if he supposedly brings “nothing to the table.” Benavidez asserted his position as a deserving challenger, “I’ve been the number one contender for the past three years…the only thing that’s keeping me from being champion is Canelo.” His words underline a fierce determination to claim his spot at the top.
