Alvarez fires back at De La Hoya

In an interview with FIghtHypeTV De La Hoya surprisingly claimed that the reason Alvarez lost his fight against Bivol was golf and that it had made his legs ‘weak’.

“I used to play golf in between fights and it takes a lot of of you’re out there for six hours. You’re standing your legs are weak and so you’re focused, a fighter had to be focused. Your back everything, go back to the drawing board, that’s it,” said De La Hoya.

However, Alvarez wasn’t shy to fire back at his former promoter’s claims and stated that he lost because Bivol was the better fighter overall and that he didn’t want to make any excuses, “I lost because I lost not for golf not for nothing, I golfing like three years ago and I win the undisputed champion so that’s not a reason. It’s another reason right there but I don’t wanna say anything making excuses. I lost, and that’s it.” He told the reporter.

According to Alvarez, golf was certainly not the reason for him losing to Bivol as he shut down that claim by De La Hoya. There is also some truth to this, as Alvarez stated, he was the undisputed champion three years ago while he was also golfing.

Will Canelo Alvarez face Dmitry Bivol after his next fight?

Alvarez will face GGG in his next fight. However, this might just be a stepping stone for him to get a chance for redemption against Dmitry Bivol. Alvarez has stated publicly that he would like to get a rematch with Bivol after his fight with Golovkin. Moreover, Bivol has also shown interest in fighting the undisputed middleweight champion.
