A few days back, Canelo Alvarez gave an honest opinion about his gym partner and former interim lightweight champion, Ryan Garcia. Alvarez spoke about how Garcia is wasting time and how it is a bad signal. Later, these comments did rounds on social media, and many felt there was a rift between the two.

However, ‘King Ry’ idolizes Canelo, and the p4p star also knows what type of talent Garcia has.

Recently, Alvarez chatted with Fight Hub TV over this juncture. Here, a translator interpreted his quotes.

I haven’t talked to him no because he’s just recovering from his surgery. But what I said about him it wasn’t meant in a bad way. It was meant to be constructive criticism. I want him to take it that way and get the motivation to be on the right track once again.”

Alvarez is like an elder brother to Ryan Garcia, and he only wants the young gun to do well. That said, even in his earlier comments, his sole aim was to push ‘King Ry’ to remain on the right path.

If he had remained active after the Campbell fight, Garcia could have been boxing for the world title in his next bout.
