It’s never easy to suffer a loss, but if anyone can bounce back stronger, it would be Canelo Alvarez. The Mexican superstar stepped into the ring last Saturday night against Terence Crawford and endured the third defeat of his illustrious career. Crawford, defying the odds, delivered a masterful performance to secure a unanimous decision after dominating nearly 90 percent of the fight.

In front of 70,482 fans at Allegiant Stadium, Crawford cemented his place in history as the only male boxer to achieve undisputed status in three different weight classes. The judges scored the bout 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113, all in favor of Crawford. For the first time in a long while, Alvarez – who had carried an aura of invincibility – looked vulnerable, reduced to looking like just another man in the ring.

Will there be a rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford?
After the fight, a battered and visibly upset Canelo took time to process the setback. Now composed, he released a humble statement on X. “I feel very proud of everything I’ve achieved so far; we always want to win, but I accept this defeat with humility and learning,” Canelo Alvarez wrote. “I am very grateful to my team for all the sacrifices we’ve made together over all these years,” he continued. “I already won because I have my family with me and millions of fans who have never stopped supporting me. ¡Viva México, Cabrones!”
As for a potential rematch, Canelo Alvarez appeared open to the idea when asked immediately after the fight. “Like I said to him, I feel great to share the ring with great fighters like him,” Alvarez said. “If we do it again, it’s going to be great. I’m glad to share the ring with great fighters, and I’m glad to be here. I already did a lot in boxing, [I’ve] already accomplished a lot in boxing. My legacy is already there. I [am] still taking risks because I love boxing.”

Terence Crawford, however, didn’t echo the same enthusiasm. Instead, he hinted at the possibility of walking away from the sport following this monumental victory. “I don’t know,” Crawford said when asked about his future. “I gotta sit down with my team and we’ll talk about it.”
For now, the question of a rematch remains uncertain, but one thing is clear—Crawford has earned the ultimate respect of Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo claims he could not figure out Crawford’s style
Canelo Alvarez has admitted that he simply could not figure out Crawford’s style after suffering another loss. “Everything [gave me trouble]. He has everything,” Alvarez confessed at the post-fight press conference. “We knew Crawford is a great fighter. I did what I was supposed to do, right? I tried for every way. I trained very hard. He deserves all the credit. I tried my best. I couldn’t figure out the style.”

To put Crawford’s dominance into perspective, he threw 216 more punches and outlanded Canelo 115-99, showcasing speed and precision despite having all the disadvantages. Alvarez suggested it wasn’t just Crawford’s brilliance but also his own limits. “Sometimes you try, and your body can’t go. That’s my frustration… I tried my best,” he said.
It doesn’t look like a rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford is on the horizon. Still, Canelo has two fights left under his deal with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, and with his previous statement that he plans to retire at 37, fans can expect to see him back in the ring—just not against Crawford, unless the latter has a change of heart. What’s your take on Canelo’s tweet?
