For the last few days, the combat sports world has been shaken by rumors of a possible fight between Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez. Boxing insiders and reporters have consistently posted about the potential matchup on social media. However, there was no solid evidence.

The rumors started swirling during the Benavidez-Morrell fight weekend. Since Canelo had an open slot on his Cinco De Mayo fight date in May before his scheduled mega-fight against Terence Crawford in September, many expected the rumors to be a real possibility. With the rumors gaining speed, fans wanted to know the answers. Well, it looks like they got it as The Problem Child dropped a major update about his next fight.

“It’s time” for Jake Paul

While the rumors were catching fire, the Problem Child surprisingly remained mum. However, it all changed a few days ago, when El Gallo took to his ‘X’ to reveal the date of his next fight. The 27-year-old has been teasing a return date for a while. Earlier, he indicated a return against his brother Logan Paul on March 27, but that turned out to be just a promotion for an HBO Max series based on them. Once again, Paul shared a date on his ‘X’ and this time, he implied it was for a fight. He wrote, “It’s time. Sat July 5th. New York, New York,” revealing the potential date and venue for his return. Paul last fought against Mike Tyson on November 15 in a highly controversial fight.

If the date revealed by the Cleveland native is true, it has ruled out the possibility of a match against Canelo Alvarez as the dates do not match. It completely contradicts the report shared by Mexican journalist Julianis Julius that “There is already an agreement for Jake Paul to be Canelo Álvarez’s rival in May of this year, a source very close to the operation informs me.” However, at this moment it seems nothing more than just a rumor.

Even though the fight seems like a distant possibility, MVP co-owner Nakisa Bidarian recently threw out an offer to make the fight between Canelo and Paul possible.

Canelo Alvarez: The dream opponent

During a recent interview with Fred Beck, Bidarian revealed how Jake Paul is ready to come down to 200lbs to fight his arch-nemesis KSI and sneakily roped in the unified super middleweight champion in the conversation.

“Cruiserweight, easy. [The] fight’s done…” said Paul’s promoter when Beck asked the possibility of a fight against KSI. However, for Bidarian, no opponent can be better for Jake Paul than Canelo Alvarez, as the latter won’t ask him to cut weight to fight him. “Canelo is never going to, I don’t believe, say to Jake Paul, ‘You have to cut to fight me.’ Because he has the cojones to say, ‘Great. I’m gonna go in there and beat this dude up…” said Bidarian.

At the moment, The Problem Child weighs more than 200 lbs as he fought against Mike Tyson at heavyweight. Since the fight, many mainstream boxers including the likes of Daniel Dubois and Artur Beterbiev have called ‘El Gallo’ out. However, none of those fights were as hyped up or intriguing as the prospect of Paul fighting against Canelo Alvarez.
