The first time they met was in 2017. The scenario before this clash was interesting. Canelo was pressing forward and gathering back-to-back belts in the middleweight division. The biggest threat to his dream was Golovkin, who was successfully guarding his titles for years. He was undefeated with an amazing set of skills.
This was quite clear to Alvarez when he touched the gloves. From the opening rounds, GGG began out-jabbing Canelo, and he kept on doing that till the end of the fight. However, Canelo, who relied on body punches, emerged victorious on the judges’ card. This created controversy, so Canelo met GGG again in 2018 in a rematch.
