Speaking to Moore, the reporter quickly inquired about his thoughts on Canelo fighting these two guys. In response, the NABF champion said, “[The] biggest fight [is] him and Benavidez, you know. [The] smartest fight might be him and Charlo. Either one of them, Canelo’s one of the greats, so I think he’s going to destroy Charlo.”

When asked whether fighting Jermall Charlo would confuse casual fans about the identity of the Charlo brother, Moore said he respects Canelo Alvarez for it. “That’s true, I honestly kind of respect him for [it]. He [will beat] two twin brothers like ‘I beat your family.’ So, I kind of respect it, and then the Benavidez fight is going to happen,” said Moore.

He went on to suggest that fighting Jermall Charlo could be a strategic move on Canelo’s part. “I think he knows like ‘I’m bigger than this Charlo guy, [let’s] knock him out [then] the Benavidez [fight for] that money,’ makes sense,” said Moore. However, according to a recent tweet from Michael Benson, the opponent could be someone else entirely.

If not Jermall Charlo or David Benavidez? Then who?

Following a recent win over John Ryder, Jaime Mungia expressed his desire to fight Canelo Alvarez in the Cinco de Mayo event on May 4. And the people at PBC seem to think it will sell better than the Charlo fight. Today, Benson revealed the news on X (formerly Twitter). It was initially revealed on ESPN Mexico.

“Al Haymon’s PBC [is] reportedly ready to pay Canelo Alvarez his guaranteed purse said to be ‘around $35 million’ for a fight vs. Jaime Munguia on May 4th, but not if he insists on Jermall Charlo,” wrote Benson. He further added, “It’s claimed PBC believes fight vs Munguia would sell better.” However, there haven’t been any comments from Canelo’s corner regarding the same.

One take at a time

The first time boxing captured my attention, it was because of a line I heard in the film 'Rocky Balboa', a film surrounding boxing. The line went like this, "But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
