In conversation, Ak asked him about Garcia‘s prediction about his fight. Alvarez hit back, saying, “He’s just mad for something – he’s no longer in the team. He’s always going to be versus us, no matter what. But he’s a little kid. You need to understand him. He needs to learn a lot of things.”

He also mentioned that Garcia should focus on improving himself as a fighter and becoming a world champion before talking. Notably, Alvarez was a world champion at the age of 20.

Further, he also added that Garcia owes money to his trainer Eddy Reynoso. He said, “He’s going to talk mad sh!t about us. It’s fine. But he needs to remember how much Eddy did for him. A lot of things. He and his father still owe money to Eddy, and Eddy doesn’t say anything because he doesn’t need it. It’s not fair that he’s talking sh!t about everything in the camp.” [H/T Bad Left Hook].

The Ryan Garcia Canelo Alvarez fallout

For the longest time, it seemed like Canelo Alvarez was grooming Ryan Garcia for greatness. The champ was, in fact, instrumental in mentoring and supporting the young Garcia.

However, Garcia took a year-long hiatus to focus on himself and to nurse his broken wrist back to health. During this time, Alvarez made a comment about Garcia. He said, “Ryan has a lot of talent, but to me, in my eyes, he’s wasting a lot of time and wasting his talent. I look at him and don’t see him 100 percent dedicated and, to us, that’s a bad signal.”

Garcia was taken aback by Alvarez’s statement. He even stated that Alvarez was aware of what he was going through. This, in turn, led to a strain in their relationship, leading to their fallout. Garcia took time away from the sport for his mental health, and as such, did not appreciate Alvarez’s comments regarding his absence in the gym. The American sensation considered Alvarez a big brother and mentor, which is why Alvarez’s comments hurt him on a personal level. Hopefully, in the future, the two can put away their differences, as Garcia can learn a lot from the champion.
