Given his success in the sport, Alvarez is one of the most marketable boxers. The proof of this was in his incredibly lucrative contract with Golden Boy and DAZN. However, after a legal dispute with Oscar De La Hoya, Alvarez became a free agent.

The 55-1-2 boxer signed a two-fight deal with Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn at the back end of 2020 after his release from Golden Boy. It appeared that the primary reason for this was to make the unification bout with Billy Joe Saunders possible.

Eddie Hearn also represents Saunders, and thus, it was easier to make the fight. As of now, Alvarez is on his second fight of a two-fight deal with Matchroom. Therefore, Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing have promoted the highly anticipated bout with Billy Joe Saunders.

Furthermore, Alvarez himself became a promoter towards the end of 2020 for his bout against Callum Smith. Hence, it is likely that the Mexican will follow in the footsteps of Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather. The Mexican pugilist has gotten his promotional license and can conduct business in Las Vegas.

Therefore, the relationship with Hearn will be short-lived. However, if he can become the undisputed super-middleweight champion by the end of the year, it will be a successful union for all involved.
