Back in February, several reports suggested that the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez had parted ways with the Premier Boxing Championship. The reports claimed that they had mutually separated because of disagreements about Canelo’s next opponent between the two parties. However, Eddy Reynoso claims all that isn’t true!

As per Canelo’s deal with Al Haymon’s PBC, he was supposed to appear in three different fights under PBC’s banner. However, following a victory over Jermell Charlo last September, reportedly, Canelo didn’t quite like the opponents PBC presented and the money he could make from them. So, as Canelo is gearing up for a May 4 fight against Jaime Munguia, Canelo’s trainer cleared the air about the PBC situation. The same was picked up by Danny on social media today!

According to Danny’s tweet, while speaking to a Spanish media house, Reynoso stated, “It was said many times that we left PBC…We never left PBC. We have the approval of Mr. Haymon that if we can’t finalize anything with 1 of their fighters… we can negotiate with any company.” As it turns out, the Munguia fight is the direct result of that, and Haymon is involved in it.

Moreover, Reynoso also hinted at a potential September fight for the Mexican superstar under PBC’s banner. However, because PBC isn’t able to find the best opponent for Canelo all the time, Canelo’s team has the option to negotiate with other companies. “Sometimes they (PBC) don’t have the best fighters for Canelo…we can talk with Eddie Hearn, Top Rank, with any fighter, people of Saudi Arabia too,” said Reynoso. Meanwhile, Canelo has agreed to fight David Benavidez but not for cheap.

Canelo Alvarez demands an outrageous amount to face David Benavidez

For the upcoming fight on the Cinco De Mayo weekend, Canelo and Jaime Munguia kicked off their press tour recently. Before the conference, Fight Hub TV caught up with Canelo and probed him about the David Benavidez fight. In response, Canelo said, “He brings nothing to the table for me. He just brings 25 [million] more on the fight that night, and that’s it.”

Suggesting Benavidez has nothing to offer him, the Mexican superstar revealed the only way a fight between them could be made. “If a promoter comes to me and offers me 150 or 200 million, I fight tomorrow,” said Canelo. While such payouts in boxing aren’t unheard of, it is rare. So, it would be interesting to see whether anyone offers Canelo such an amount.

Despite previous reports suggesting a separation between Canelo Alvarez and PBC, Eddy Reynoso has denied that it ever happened. Meanwhile, Canelo is busy preparing for the Mungia fight. Moreover, if Canelo manages to draw people to his fight on May 4, getting a $200 million deal to fight Benavidez isn’t entirely out of the question.
