The WBC, WBA, and Ring 168 lbs champion Canelo Alvarez seems vexed with WBO titleholder Billy Joe Saunders ahead of their unification clash on May 8. The Mexican superstar has urged ‘Superb’ to stop making excuses as the WBO champion recently complained about the selection of judges.

Ahead of the fight, despite Saunders being undefeated, fans consider Alvarez as the favorite. So, the WBO champion urged the media to consider his fair chances in the matchup.

In response to this, the P4P king connected with ESPN Deportes and said, “Losers always make excuses, and always ahead of time. When I fight, I’m ready for any style. If you want to go out there and move if you want to go out and do whatever you want, I am ready for that,” said Canelo Alvarez.

Meanwhile, the 4-division champion isn’t writing off Saunders’s abilities. He expects a tough fight on May 8 and hailed his opponent’s chances.

Canelo Alvarez said, “I am aware that it is going to be a difficult fight, because he’s a left-hander, because of the style he has, but it is a matter of having patience.” (H/T- Boxing Scene)

Following a return in December, Alvarez grabbed the WBC, WBA, and Ring titles in a lopsided showdown against Callum Smith. He defended them with a sensational KO over Avni Yildirim in February. Moving ahead, he will aim to add the WBO title to his collection next month.

Akin to the P4P king, Billy Joe Saunders ended his year-long inactivity with a unanimous decision win against Martin Murray in December 2020. The 30-year-old southpaw, who holds a pro record of 30-0, has never been bested inside the ring. However, Alvarez has taken away the 0’s from several boxers’ records.

While Saunders will have a 3” reach advantage over Alvarez, it might not be enough to grab the win. Despite having all the weapons in his arsenal, ‘Superb’ will have to push his limits in the ring.
