Canelo Alvarez Talks About Whether Cinco De Mayo Is A Motivation Or More Pressure

Boxing fans around the world know that the Cinco de mayo weekend is considered special in the boxing world. Superstar boxer, Canelo Alvarez, has his upcoming fight scheduled this weekend. It is a known fact to his fans, that the Mexican has had numerous fights in this period of time. 

Matchroom Boxing uploaded a YouTube video in which big names from the boxing world were present at an event in Las Vegas. Amongst them, Canelo Alvarez was also present, and he shared his happiness about being there during the Cinco de Mayo week. He said, “I feel good, I feel really happy to be here in Vegas again. And I’m really excited.”

Moreover, the boxer was also asked if he considers Cinco de Mayo a motivation or pressure. To which, Alvarez replied, “Both, both. Motivation, no pressure. I like what I do, so motivation.” 

Boxers’ fascination with Cinco de Mayo

The pound-for-pound king has had some of his biggest fights during the Cinco de Mayo weekend. Alvarez being a Mexican has a huge amount of admiration for this weekend.

Apart from Alvarez, even other renowned boxers had big matches in this festive period. Big names like Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, and Manny Pacquiao are some of them.

Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for ‘fifth of May’. It is also the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla. And is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and the United States. It goes back to the time when the military forces defeated the French forces of Napoleon III in 1862.

Nevertheless, this festival has now got an extension in the boxing world. It is also considered the boxing weekend, since numerous big fights have happened during this period.
