Canelo has made no secret to fight on the Cinco De Mayo weekend, an occasion of a grand celebration in his hometown of Mexico. Mike Coppinger from The Athletic was the first to report the news on his Twitter.
He suggested February will be the date for the fight against Yildirim after he agreed to details with Eddie Hearn. This would give Canelo just enough time to come back in May.
Sources: Canelo Alvarez and Matchroom Boxing have agreed on major deal-points toward a Feb. 27 title defense vs. Avni Yildirim on DAZN in the U.S. Still a few considerations being negotiated. Alvarez would then turn around and fight May 5 if no injury sustained
