The year 2021 has already witnessed some stupendous boxing performances from hotshots of the game. But there are still some high-class fights that fans wish to see in the remaining months of 2021. That said, the Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant undisputed fight is one such thrilling contest on that list. It has the ability to hook in fans across enormous sporting verticals.

Earlier, there were talks of this fight getting finalized for September 18th. But according to recent reports, it seems the fight has gone off track. Moreover, the future of this bout seems in jeopardy.

The IBF super-middleweight champ, Caleb Plant, recently interacted with ESPN over the reasons why this fight fell through. He said, “One that is absurd – If I get injured or sick, he gets a late replacement for the same guaranteed money. But if he gets sick or injured, we gotta wait for him.” (h/t Michael Benson)

Plant considers Alvarez‘s points as ‘ridiculous requests’. Citing that, he decided to pull himself out of these talks.

This super-middleweight bout was in contention ever since the Mexican boxer vanquished Billy Joe Saunders in May 2021. It was a massive title unification fight in the most decorated setting. Also, it was pretty clear that the winner of this bout would line himself up for a fight with Plant for the undisputed belt.

Even the fans kept their fingers crossed and they were pretty optimistic about seeing the Plant vs Alvarez fight coming to life. But with ‘Sweethands’ above comments, the boxing fraternity will unquestionably be disheartened.

What’s next for Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant if they don’t fight each other?

Canelo and Plant are the two most watch-worthy talents at the current 168-pound mix. And a battle between them would have settled the debate of the best super-middleweight technician on the planet.
