The undisputed champion at super middleweight Canelo Alvarez is set to face Gennady Golovkin for a sensational showdown on September 17, 2022. It is also worth noting that the duo faced each other twice previously. Meanwhile, Alvarez and his family went through a stressful period prior to his title clash after a victory against Golovkin.

Alvarez faced Golovkin at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada on September 15, 2018. Moreover, he showcased a stellar performance winning the bout by decision. In victory, he won the WBA (Super), WBC, and vacant The Ring middleweight titles.

The fight was initially supposed to take place on May 5, 2018. But the fight had to be rescheduled as Alvarez was suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission for six months. It was reported that he had failed a drug test for clenbuterol.

In December of the same year, he faced Rocky Fielding for a title clash at the iconic Madison Square Garden, New York City. The bout also saw him win the WBA (Regular) super middleweight title.

However, the week prior he was beset with family issues. He received a call from Mexico informing him that his brother had been kidnapped.

Talking about the incident, he said, “For three days, I negotiated with those as*holes so they would let him go. Three days.”
