‘The Destroyer’, however, changed trainers after his defeat to the Englishman in the second fight. Since then, Ruiz Jr. has been on a strict training routine. Moreover, he wants all the big fights for his return to the ring.

Ahead of Canelo Alvarez, taking on Avni Yildirim on February 27, his coach spoke to Little Giant Boxing on YouTube. Regarding Ruiz Jr., he said, “He’s going to be a great fighter and maybe one day we’ll have to face Eddie Hearn in the Anthony Joshua trilogy. This time we’re going to knock him out.” [translated from Spanish]

When could the trilogy between Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua happen?

Joshua is close to a two-fight deal with Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight title. This should keep the champion occupied for the whole of 2021. So when will the trilogy fight between the two happen?

The Fury-Joshua fight has provided Ruiz Jr. the perfect opportunity to work his way back to a title shot. If he can take on two contenders in 2021, he could warrant another fight against ‘AJ’. Moreover, if Joshua loses to Fury, it would make it easier to stage that fight.

Therefore, given the excitement in the heavyweight division, a third fight is possible. However, it all relies on whether the former champion can make a successful return to the sport. Rumors suggest Ruiz Jr. will take on Chris Arreola next. This will do him no favors in getting a third fight against Joshua unless he makes a big statement.

What do you think of these comments from Eddy Reynoso? Do you think Canelo Alvarez’s team can help Andy Ruiz Jr. become champion again?
