WBO and IBF champion Artur Beterbiev recently added the WBC light-heavyweight belt to his collection after his dominant victory over Joe Smith Jr. He made quick work of the former champion knocking Smith out in the second round. Moreover, he also added another win to his undefeated record and is now 18-0 with a 100% finish rate.

The Russian boxer received a lot of praise from boxing fans and pundits for his outstanding performance. He will now be looking for his next challenge, which could include the WBA champion, Dimitri Bivol, or middle-weight champion Canelo Alvarez. However, the fans feel like the latter will have a hard time against Beterbiev as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts on a potential match between Beterbiev and Alvarez.
Fans react to Beterbiev’s victory and are critical of Alvarez
Many fans took to Twitter and praised Beterbiev for his victory but also roped in Canelo Alvarez, citing how he should stay in his division and not move up to 175 pounds again after his loss to Bivol.
One fan Tweeted, “If you had any doubt after the Bivol fight, Beterbiev made it very clear that Canelo has no business f****ng around at 175″

Another praised Bivol and suggested that Alvarez chose not to fight Beterbiev tweeting, “As good as Dmitry Bivol is, there’s a reason Canelo chose him and Sergey Kovalev when he was looking for a light-heavyweight dance partner. Artur Beterbiev is a different animal.”

Artur Beterbiev vs Canelo Alvarez
It seems that as much as Alvarez would like to push himself to fight the toughest opponents, competing in the 175-pound division might not be the best option for the Mexican.

His fight against Bivol proved that he is not ready to face the best in the light heavyweight division. Moreover, Beterbiev’s dominant victory has only added to the doubt of whether Alvarez can be successful at 175 pounds. The Russian will now most likely face WBA champion Dmitry Bivol to unify all four belts and become the undisputed light-heavyweight champion.
