The world of boxing recently stood witness to the pugilistic prowess of two-time WBC super middleweight champion, David Benavidez. He retained his title with an impressive performance against Caleb Plant. Meanwhile, Benavidez had expressed a desire to fight the undisputed champion of the super middleweight division, Canelo Alvarez. Boxing promoter and Top Rank CEO, Bob Arum, recently delved into the outcome of this potential fight.

Arum was in an interview with Fight Hub TV. In conversation, Arum was asked to share his thoughts on a potential Benavidez vs Plant matchup. He responded by shedding light on his admiration for Benavidez. Arum said, “I’ve always been a Benavidez fan. I think he’s a very good fighter. And, Canelo hasn’t been as good lately, as he was before. So, I think that would be a very competitive match.”

Moreover, he further added, “Now economically, and so forth, if it makes any sense, that’s up to the fighters. Neither of whom I promote. But, it will certainly be an interesting fight to see.”

Canelo Alvarez warns David Benavidez

Prior to his fight against Plant, Benavidez had issued an ultimatum to Alvarez. Talking about future fights, he said, “We would have to see you know. I think I want to fight Canelo, just to prove myself down the best 168. But if he doesn’t want to fight then of course that’s the route we would go.” Additionally, Benavidez also mentioned that he has been Alvarez’s mandatory challenger for the longest time.

On the other hand, Alvarez made it a point to remind him that he is a challenging opponent. He said, “Everybody say the same thing before I fought with Golovkin. He’s a monster, he is gonna knock out Canelo. At the end of the day, being in the ring with a different fighter and being in the ring with me is different.”
