Canelo Alvarez’s coach Eddy Reynoso is reportedly in talks with former IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. After his shock loss to Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua has been looking for a new coach. The Brit traveled to the United States and visited various different gyms in order to find a new coach for himself.

This search also led him to the star-studded gym of Canelo Alvarez and Eddy Reynoso. The gym is mostly all Mexican fighters, including Joshua’s former foe Andy Ruiz Jr.

Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing have begun advanced talks with the two-time world trainer of the year in order to secure a deal.

“He has many physical qualities and I think he does not take advantage of them,” said Eddy Reynoso. Michael Benson reported that the two began talks and Reynoso is looking to secure ‘AJ’. Joshua looked far from impressive in his last fight against Usyk and got outclassed.

For twelve rounds straight, the taller and stronger ‘AJ’ fell prey to the boxing charms of Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian worked his magic inside the ring to secure a victory via decision.

In just his third fight in the heavyweight division, Usyk bet the top dog and put the whole division on notice.

Bob Arum thinks Anthony Joshua should step aside

Legendary promoter Bob Arum gave his opinion on Joshua finding a new trainer. The promoter strongly believes it’s high time ‘AJ’ got himself a new trainer. “I think he [Anthony Joshua] really needs a new trainer because obviously fighting Usyk the way he did, fighting Usyk 100 times and he’ll beat him 100 times,” said promoter Bob Arum to All Access Elite Boxing.

“So maybe a new trainer, which means maybe it would be wise to not force a fight with Usyk right away and let Usyk fight Tyson Fury with the winner to fight Joshua and Joshua would have an interim fight in the meantime.” (via Boxing247.com)

What Arum is suggesting could be a win-win for Joshua and Hearn. As Joshua gets more time to train and Tyson Fury will deal with Usyk, with the winner fighting Joshua.
