The fans are eager to see Gervonta Davis in the ring soon. The 24-year-old last fought against boxing star, Ryan Garcia earlier this year. In their contest, ‘Tank,’ dominated Garcia and legitimized himself as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the sport. At the moment, there are plenty of formidable opponents out there who are willing to fight him and give the fans a show. One of those potential opponents is Keith Thurman.

The 34-year former champion is one of the toughest match-ups out there for Davis. Although there is a significant weight difference between the two, a bout was rumored to take place at a catchweight. However, in a recent turn of events, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions made a startling statement about this potential fight.

Is Gervonta Davis vs. Keith Thurman a possibility?

Not too long ago, Davis used to fight under the Mayweather Promotions banner. Not to mention, during the nascent stages of his rise, he was tagged as the prodigy of Floyd Mayweather. The two used to be seen training together and at times spending quality time. However, the young boxer chose to part ways with the promotions but did so without any animosity. Despite their split, Mayweather Jr. is often seen at his fights being a pillar of support. Not to mention, even the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe has nothing but kind words for the undefeated boxer.

In a recent interview with Fight Hype.com, the promoter was asked if Davis’ next fight was against Thurman. In response, with conviction, he claimed that the fight was never in consideration and Davis was a big enough draw to fight whomever and whenever.

Reflecting on the same, he stated, “It never was a possibility. I don’t know where that kind of stuff comes from. It’s like I tell people all the time ‘Tank’ is his own boss and when he’s ready to go, he’s gonna let you guys know.”

In another interview, Ellerbe was asked if he thinks Davis would grace the squared again this year. In response, he asserted that Davis may or may not, but it is clear whenever he makes his comeback, the bout will be a spectacle to witness. Reflecting on the same, he stated, “That’s a good question. That’s the questions I can’t answer. A question that I can’t answer right now. But when ‘Tank’ is ready to come back out, he’s gonna make that big splash like he always does.”
