Two weeks ago, Claressa Shields, the most decorated female boxer ever, added another laurel to her name and made history by claiming the first-ever women’s undisputed heavyweight title. She also became the first female fighter to achieve undisputed status in three weight divisions. It was truly a remarkable achievement as the ‘GWOAT’ thrashed Danielle Perkins in front of a packed home crowd at the Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan.

However, boxing insider Rick Glaser decided to rain on her parade as he took to his X to report that the Flint native has “reputedly failed a drug test,” following her clash against Perkins, which is “rumored to be a PED test.” As expected, Shields did not take the allegations lightly as she hit out immediately at the insider while being backed by a few big boxing personalities online.

Claressa Shields is ready to lawyer up

SNAC founder Victor Conte was the first to jump in and defend Shields. He immediately backed the undisputed women’s heavyweight champion, issuing an “IMORTANT NOTICE TO BOXING”  to clear any misconception regarding the alleged drug test results. According to Conte, there was indeed a test after the bout. However, it was not a PED test, rather it was for cannabinoids. “@ClaressaShields did not test positive for a PED after her recent fight in Michigan. Claressa had not smoked marijuana, however, the commision did a mouth swab test after the fight,” wrote Conte on X.

The BALCO laboratories co-founder further stated, “There seems to be a number of issues that exist with the Michigan testing procedure.” And it is different from what other states follow as usually “Urine is the normal sample used to test for marijuana,” he explained. Furthermore, “Most credible anti-doping entities do not consider marijuana to be a PED. VADA found no PEDs in Claressa’s blood and urine samples. The Nevada commision, the UFC and other commissions do not consider marijuana a PED,” Conte declared.

The SNAC founder even acknowledged that the “3.4 ng/ml or parts per billion,” found in Shields’s mouth could “come from second-hand smoke in the arena.” He assured everyone that the undisputed heavyweight champion ” is a clean boxer and always has been.” And that there was no irregularity on her in her title match according to him.

These revelations directly contradicted the claims made by Rick Glaser and it was enough to motivate Claressa Shields to jump in and defend herself. She did not hold back and threatened to drag Glaser to the court in a cold warning. She replied to the quote by Conte and wrote, “Yeah @RealRickGlaser1 you getting sued buddy.” As the post gathered storm, people quickly jumped in to voice their opinions. However, Shields found more support than rebuke as a veteran boxing promoter too jumped in on the post to defend her.

Nothing to gain from the suit

Lou DiBella, founder and CEO of DiBella Entertainment, tore up Glaser in his comment. In a rant directed at Rick Glaser, DiBella wrote, “Frauds don’t have appreciable assets to go after. When you’re a delusional, broke-a**, fiction, with a negligible credit rating, you’re sorta judgment proof.” He then advised Claressa Shields to not go ahead with the lawsuit as the boxing insider “has nothing to sue him for.”

However, it looked like rather than being angry, the Flint native was more hurt and saddened by the claims against her. She replied to DiBella and wrote, “It’s really angering that this man is playing with my reputation. I’ve been a clean athlete all my life, to ever put my name and PEDS with positive and my name in the sentence is damaging. He knows that. He’s going to get sued and I’d like a public apology,” revealing how the allegations have indeed hurt her.

It looks like the GWOAT has made up her mind. However, the question is, does she have enough to file a lawsuit against the insider? After all, he definitely did not confirm any news and wrote that the news was “reported.” Which gives him the benefit of the doubt. Do you think Claressa Shields should go ahead with the lawsuit?
