Two-time Olympic champion, Claressa Shields, is a motivation to many women and girls around the world. She has set an example of being a tough and unbeatable female boxer and a mixed martial artist.

‘T-Rex’ conveyed a bold message on the occasion of Women’s Day, which inspired the women on social media. Sky Sports Boxing tweeted Claressa Shields’ video where she conveyed her message to the audience.

I just want to continue to speak up for women. Let the women know that it’s ok to be themselves, you know it’s not a certain kind of woman you have to be. Like, I don’t like that. They try to put you into this box. And they say all this crazy stuff like they want woman to be skinny, pretty, you gotta be nice, you can’t even talk too loud, you can’t be too aggressive, you can’t curse.”

Like, they put this, they put this cap on you like this is the box and this is woman. And this is all woman can be and if you are outside that box they look at you as if, Oh! you are not the ideal woman, you are not good enough, and I am big on to speaking on . Umm. . . Women just being themselves and not let in social media, fans or anybody change them or making them be something that they don’t wanna be.

This is not the first time that Claressa Shields has come out in support of women. There are many instances where she stepped in to help others and also been vocal about issues related with women.

In March 2021, ‘GWOAT’ opened up to the promoters and agents about equal pay to women compared to men. She had demanded equal pay for female boxers, as they put in the same amount of effort and blood in the game compared to men.

With this statement, she broke all the stereotypical thoughts of the society through her words as she does in the ring to her contenders.

The Boxing journey of Claressa Shields

Claressa Shields was first introduced to boxing by her father, Bo Shields. She has many records in her name for performing exceptionally dazzling in the ring and the octagon.

The ‘T-rex ‘won her first gold medal at The London Olympics in 2012 when she was just 17. Meanwhile, she bagged the second one 4 years later in the Rio Olympics 2016. Consequently, she got herself enlisted in the Guinness books of world records.

Shields also has 2 world championship gold medals and a Pan American games gold medal. Her only loss in international and amateur careers was against Savannah Marshall.

As of now, she has an undisputed record of 12-0-0. Out of those bouts, two have come via knockouts in her professional boxing career.

She is the undisputed champion of 3 weight divisions. Hence, people know her as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the current generation.

On the other hand, she has just stepped in MMA in 2021, where she has 1 win and 1 loss to her account. Undoubtedly, the win came by a technical knockout.
