Famous internet boxing coach, Coach Sammy, has had his say on the potential Oscar De La Hoya vs Gennady Golovkin fight. Reports suggest that the Golden Boy Promotions star is serious about fighting GGG. The 47-year-old wants not only to return to the sport, but he also does not want to follow Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr by fighting exhibitions. Instead, he wants a few of the top fighters.

Top of his list is Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin and Coach Sammy says the fight is closer than people think. Speaking to EsNews, he said, “I think it’s a toss-up. De La Hoya, when he left the ring, even though he lost, but he was not a washed-up fighter. He was not that washed-up. Triple G right now, in the last couple of fights I’ve seen him, he don’t… It seems to me that he’s still fighting, but he’s done.”

We’re not so sure many fans will agree with the YouTube sensation, other than maybe De La Hoya himself. The promoter himself told BoxingScene, “You know how easy GGG would be for me? Oh, my gosh. It would be a high-profile fight for sure”.

If De La Hoya was to return, it would be more advisable for him to fight someone his age, who would also be looking for a comeback. However, this does not interest the charismatic promoter, and he claims he only wants the big names. Do you see Oscar De La Hoya returning to boxing in 2021?
