With merely two days left in his upcoming fight, Ryan Garcia seems to have landed himself in yet another verbal feud with his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya. Previously, Bernard Hopkins, the top brass at Golden Boy Promotions, remarked that he would have to see Ryan’s performance to judge whether he should fight again or not. Unfortunately, the statement did not sit well with ‘King Ry’ as he came back with a scathing message for Bernard.

While appearing in The Last Stand Podcast, Ryan dismissed the comment from ‘B-Hop’ while dragging in the $6 million payout for the company from his Gervonta Davis fight. What’s more, this isn’t the first time these two parties have butted heads. Previously, Garcia threw shade at Oscar for not attending the post-match press conference following the Davis fight, kickstarting a feud that resulted in a lawsuit between them. However, responding to Ryan’s recent outburst, ‘Golden Boy’ has released a statement highlighting his commitment to Ryan’s career while reminding him of a $30 million paycheck.

Turning to X (formerly Twitter), Oscar underscored his and Bernard’s contributions to the sport and Ryan’s career. “Bernard and I have spent decades putting on the biggest events in the sport – including Ryan’s last fight, which generated $30 million for him,”  Oscar wrote. He added that he and his promotion company help boxers build their career and become the highest-paid boxers.

The former world champion then penned a message directly to Garcia, claiming he should focus on his craft. Rather than focusing on statements from his teammates taken out of context. “Ryan: Keep focused on your craft instead of listening to some of your “team’s” interpretations of comments taken out of context,” wrote Oscar. ‘Golden Boy’ concluded the tweet by suggesting Bernard and he are “committed to taking” his “career to the top.” However, the question remains – what exactly did Ryan say that prompted a response from Oscar?

During Ryan’s appearance in The Last Stand Podcast, Brian Custer brought up Bernard’s comment. So, the Victorville native questioned Bernard’s comment. “What does he mean, ‘I’ll make the decision?’ He ain’t gonna make sh!t. He can’t make s**t about me,” said Garcia.

Garcia went on to suggest that he would put on his best performance for his team, even in the face of their skepticism. “The crazy thing is I’mma box my a** off…for a team that don’t even believe in me,” said Garcia. Later in the podcast, Garcia even brought up the money Oscar’s promotion company made from the ‘Tank’ fight. “They collect that $6 million…but you don’t know if I should box again? But you made that money off that [Davis] fight,” said Garcia.

One take at a time

The first time boxing captured my attention, it was because of a line I heard in the film 'Rocky Balboa', a film surrounding boxing. The line went like this, "But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
