British boxer Conor Benn called for unnecessary attention following his failed drug test. The 26-year-old failed a VADA drug test ahead of his bout against Chris Eubank Jr. which led to the fight being called off. The 26-year-old tested positive for the banned substance Clomifene.

However, VADA was a third-party organization and not the governing body in the United Kingdom. Following this, his samples will be tested by the UKAD, the official testing agency under the BBBofC. If the tests from the UKAD are positive, Benn could potentially face up to a four-year ban from the sport.

Despite this, Benn seems confident that he hasn’t cheated as he made a bold statement on his social media. In an Instagram story, Benn stated that he hoped the apology will be on the same level as the criticism he has garnered. “I hope the apology is as loud as the disrespect,” Benn wrote.

If Benn clears his UKAD tests, he could very well face Eubank Jr. by the end of December. However, the boxing world has been very vocal about Benn’s violation, including legends like Oscar De La Hoya calling him out.

Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather call out Conor Benn

In an interview with Fight hype, De La Hoya was not sympathetic toward Benn as he spoke about the misuse of PEDS. According to him, these drugs are dangerous, especially in the sport of boxing where the fighter’s life is at risk.

Steroids is [are] the worst that one can do in this sport. Obviously, in any sport. But, in baseball, you’re hitting a ball, in tennis, you’re swinging a racket, in boxing, you’re smashing somebody’s head,” he said.

Floyd Mayweather also commented on Benn’s failed drug test in an interview. ‘Money’ shed some light on the rampant drug use in the sport, as he had firsthand experience with how fighters operated their cycles.

Well, I was a pioneer at random blood in your intestine, just so fighters and all athletes can be on the even playing field. You know, it’s all about being a fear. And athletes that’s competing against each other should be on the even plans tonight. That’s what I always thought and I will always believe in that,” he said.

There are always two sides to a story. If Benn has violated any policy, he will face the consequences of the crime. However, the truth will only unfold after the UKAD finishes its tests and announces its verdict.
