Canelo Alvarez is the ultimate favorite for his fight against Callum Smith, where he will challenge the Brit for his WBA strap and the vacant WBC super-middleweight belt. The vacant WBC belt will also be up for grabs.
However, 6’3” tall ‘Mundo’ Smith has an immense advantage in reach and he can pose some serious challenge to the Mexican gladiator. Although Alvarez has beaten taller opponents in the past, Smith can still be a threat inside the ring.
Veteran boxing analyst and trainer Teddy Atlas backs Alvarez to walk away with the win. But, he also touched upon how Smith can win at the Alamodome.

In his recent podcast, Atlas pictured the fight. He appeared a bit vexed at Alvarez for enjoying all the glory and super-stardom. Meanwhile, Atlas also labeled him as the “golden goose”.
Atlas said, “Definitely the golden goose for years in boxing has been Canelo, and to slaughter that golden goose, it’s gonna (be) with the judges in cooperation with it. It’s gonna take quite a bit,… but you know for that to happen, because the power, set B, will make sure Canelo doesn’t lose a decision. As long as he still standing or being helped to stand maybe.”
Can Callum Smith beat Canelo Alvarez?
Despite focusing on Alvarez’s advantages, Atlas didn’t rule out Smith’s chances in the fight. He credited the Brit’s opportunities and predicted him to be the winner in certain scenarios.

Atlas continued, “But that doesn’t mean that he can’t legitimately lose the fight and it could be controversial, we could fight about it, we could argue about it, we have seen that before. We could say it was a terrible robbery, we have seen that before. We could say all those things… It surely doesn’t mean it can’t be a competitive fight.”
Tonight will be big for both the pugilists. They have multiple titles to fight for, which will further enrich their legacy. Although Alvarez is the favorite, he cannot afford to lose at such a delicate stage of his career.
