Mauricio Sulaiman refuses to let it slide
The sport of boxing has seen a rise in the demand from the LGBTQIA+ community demanding their recognition and participation. Some have suggested a separate division for them. The WBC and Mauricio Sulaimán have been very vocal about the first-ever sanctioning body to create a new class specifically for members of the transgender community. However, the suggestion has received more backlash than support. One user named @rangerrollins was not too pleased with the debate surrounding the issue. In a Tweet, he stated, “Try solving the real problems in boxing Moro.” This caught Sulaiman’s attention.
Everything is of importance and the WBC is always attending all matters in our sport. Why are fights 12 and not 15 rounds? Why is the weigh in a day before and not hours before the fight? Could list dozens of other measures implemented by @WBCBoxing https://t.co/KiCXlTEq9j

This Tweet caught the attention of Sulaiman, and he did not shy away from striking back. In his response, he asserted that the WBC plays a paramount role in determining the norms of the sport that go unnoticed. He stated, “Everything is of importance and the WBC is always attending all matters in our sport. Why are fights 12 and not 15 rounds? Why is the weigh-in a day before and not hours before the fight? Could list dozens of other measures implemented by @WBCBoxing”
From the above comments, it can be reasonably inferred that WBC has a significant authority in the sport. And the WBC is actively involved in addressing different aspects of the sport that need attention, according to Sulaiman. In one recent instance, Sulaiman even pointed out one issue that they addressed not long ago that just might’ve saved one boxer’s life.
Sulaiman credits WBC for the fourth rope
A few weeks ago, Ellis Zorro suffered a devastating knockout by Jai Opetaia on the undercard on the Day of Reckoning card. While falling to the canvas, his head was caught by one of the ropes. This additional fourth rope prevented Ellis Zorro from being gravely injured. In a Tweet, the President of the WBC gave credit to none other than his commission. He stated, “Thank God for the 4th rope. It has saved many lives since its institution by the @WBCBoxing What a great Ko win by cruiserweight sensation.”
