The kingpin of modern boxing, Canelo Alvarez, put on a clinical performance last weekend. He annihilated Avni Yildirim and dispatched him in just 3 rounds of their clash. With that win, Canelo put himself on top for a title-unification fight against the Brit, Billy Joe Saunders. The duo will battle each other out on May 8. Even before reaching the ring, this bout has garnered a lot of attention from fans and fighters around the world.

Recently, the unified lightweight champ, Teofimo Lopez, gave his take on this fight. Speaking to Behind The Gloves, he said:

“With Saunders, I think that it’s a good fight, for sure. You know, but Canelo’s at that point right now. I think we all can agree, however, crazy fights have happened where the underdog comes out on top. And look at me for a good example. So, I think it’ll just be a great fight for the sport and for boxing.”

Not only that, but the ‘Takeover’ asserted on seeking inspiration from the Mexican pugilist who’s looking to stay super-active this year. Lopez added that if Canelo could stay this active, he too can trace the latter’s footsteps.
