The undefeated champion took to his Twitter to reveal the news. He wrote, “I hurt my hand sparring today.” Though this tweet did not reveal a lot, we now know that it will delay his return, at least by a few more weeks.

As of now, there are no details on the extent of the injury or recovery duration. However, what we know from this tweet is that ‘Tank’ started sparring. This means he was in the latter part of his training camp already. Therefore, maybe a fight was closer than we thought for Davis.

Who will Gervonta Davis face next?

Davis is the WBA champion and was close to securing a fight against Ryan Garcia. However, the 22-year-old will instead fight Manny Pacquiao. This means Davis is now in search of a new opponent.

The lightweight division is one of the most exciting in the sport right now. However, the big fighters may already be occupied. Teofimo Lopez will fight either Devin Haney or George Kambosos Jr. Therefore, ‘Tank’ cannot try to get a fight against any of them.

However, former pound-for-pound king, Vasyl Lomachenko has shown his desire to fight the American. Moreover, this could be a perfect match since Lomachenko himself has just returned to the ring after a serious shoulder injury.

If Davis’ injury is not a serious one, it could set things up perfectly for the return of both fighters. Moreover, it would be a great fight for all involved. Davis would get a chance to prove his mettle, while Lomachenko can make his mark on the division again.
