Last year, former two-division champion Danny Garcia stepped back into the ring to face Erislandy Lara, a return that didn’t unfold as planned for the 37-year-old. Many believed the ‘Swift’ from Philadelphia had reached the twilight of his career and should focus on his growing promotional ventures instead. Yet, the urge to lace up the gloves one more time proved irresistible.

On Saturday night at the Barclays Center in New York, Garcia squared off against Daniel Gonzalez in his farewell bout. The veteran dismantled the 35-year-old with precision and power before finishing him with a stunning fourth-round knockout. In the aftermath, Garcia stopped short of confirming retirement, hinting that he might not be done just yet. Despite his impressive performance, the event itself fell short of expectations.

Will Danny Garcia make it to the Boxing Hall of Fame?

Boxing insider Rick Glaser hopped on X recently to share a picture from Barclays Center in New York from the night of Garcia’s fight. “That’s the crowd at last night’s boxing show at the Barclays Center, right before the main event featuring Danny Garcia,” Glaser wrote. “Calling it very sparse is generous.” When asked about how much money the fight made from live gate revenue, Glaser painted a grim picture.

“The show lost money,” he claimed confidently. When pressed about what may have caused such low ticket sales, Glaser blamed a lack of marketing and Garcia’s falling popularity. “[Price], no marketing, & Danny Garcia isn’t an attraction in 2025,” Glaser wrote. This prompted one of the users to ask whether Danny Garcia would make it to the Boxing Hall of Fame, to which Glaser claimed, “Borderline, probably gets in.”

Garcia has spent much of his career fighting at Barclays Center, having fought ten times in the arena, racking up a record of 8-2. It quickly became a home away from home for the Philadelphia native, which is also the reason the fight was scheduled there. Regardless, while Glaser claims Garcia would barely make it to the Boxing Hall of Fame, the 37-year-old appears to have other ideas.

Garcia claims he has done enough to make it to the BHOF

‘Swift’ believes his legacy in boxing is already etched in stone. Despite the ups and downs in his career, the former two-division champion is convinced he’s done enough to earn a place among the sport’s immortals. “I’m making it to the Hall of Fame,” Garcia told The Ring before his last fight at Barclays Center Saturday night.

“I think I did more than enough. I was a unified champion at 140 and WBC champion at 147, I got some great wins under my belt. [I] am a two-division champion, I definitely think I’m a Hall of Famer.” With a record of 38-4 and 22 knockouts, Garcia has built a resume that includes victories over some of boxing’s elite.

It appears that despite his best effort, Danny Garcia, aka ‘Swift,’ failed to make his Barclays Center event a financial success. Whether this will deter him from another fight is yet to be seen, but the question is, what did you think of his performance?
