Jermall Charlo is set to face Jose Benavidez Jr. on the same card as David Benavidez vs. Demetrius Andrade in November, as revealed by David Benavidez. Benavidez secured a significant victory against Caleb Plant in March, enhancing his record to 27-0. Following this, Canelo Alvarez defended his WBO title against John Ryder in May, and in September, he faced Jermell Charlo due to the World Boxing Association’s mandate, winning by unanimous decision.

Now, Canelo is obligated to defend his title against the mandatory challenger from the World Boxing Council in a fight expected to take place in May 2024. Benavidez, however, is tired of pursuing Canelo for a fight. In an interview with Showtime Sports, Benavidez has expressed his views on a potential Canelo-Benavidez fight.

Addressing the fact that it is not only Benavidez who has been chasing Canelo for a fight, the interviewer asked whether Benavidez still had it in him to persuade Canelo to a fight. ‘The Mexican Monster’ replied saying that he is not focusing on it currently. He wants to pave his own path and cannot keep waiting for Canelo. He wants to take up the strongest boxers and focus on just moving forward.

“Like I said, I wanted to make my own lane. I don’t want to just keep waiting for a fight with Canelo. I mean, when it happens, great, Want to be more than ready for it. But right now, like I said, I want to fight the best fighters. I want to give my own experience. You know, I want to. I’m fighting my own pay-per-views now without Canelo.” Benavidez hopes to be the greatest fighter of his generation and will do what is imperative to make it possible.

What does WBC president have to say about the potential fight?

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has officially approved the much-anticipated Canelo Alvarez vs. David Benavidez bout. Sulaiman stated that Benavidez earned his right as the official challenger in March, with the fight scheduled to take place starting in March 2024. However, there’s a hurdle to cross; Benavidez must first secure a victory in the November 25 match.
