Mexican boxing has always been known for producing extraordinary talent, and among the current crop of fighters, two names stand out as true champions: Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez. These two fighters have been on a collision course, with fans eagerly anticipating a showdown to determine the ultimate Mexican boxing legend. However, it seems that fate has other plans, as a fight between them remains elusive.

However, in the midst of this, another formidable contender, Jermall Charlo, has emerged as a potential opponent for Alvarez. According to ESPNs, discussions have taken place regarding a fall showdown between Alvarez and Charlo. Although Charlo hasn’t competed since June 2021, following a win over Juan Macias Montiel, Benavidez feels that he has more than a punch’s chance to dethrone the undisputed super middleweight champion.

David Benavidez gives his brutally honest take on Jermall Charlo vs Canelo Alvarez

In a recent interview with FightHype.com Benavidez expressed his thoughts on the matchup. He recognized Charlo as a highly talented fighter and gave him credit for his skills and abilities. Moreover, he emphasized that the middleweight champion’s talent, combined with the opportunity to face a boxing icon like Alvarez, could serve as a powerful motivating factor, and lead him to victory.

I mean, I give Charlo a good chance. Charlo is very talented. Very talented. And especially when you get opportunities like this, it’s probably what you need. That spark to wake you back up and, you know, work hard. But it’s a good fight. I mean, um, I’m still watching,” he said

I think so. it’s just him (Canelo) being more active. Two years is a long time. He’s gonna come back, ring rust, he’s not taking no tune-up fight. But he knows himself, he knows his body, so I can’t speak about how (Charlo) feels. It’s gonna be a good fight” he added.
