However, in the recent media event at the Fightstars TV Camp House in San Diego, David Benavidez reflected his thoughts on Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin’s probable fight of the trilogy. While answering to media personnel, he recalled his sparring days with the Kazakhstani stalwart, Gennady Golovkin. ‘Red Flag’ is of the opinion that Canelo did not trust him.

He said, “When I was sparing Golovkin during the Danny Jacobs fight, he called me out to spar, and then I, but I was. That’s before the Golovkin Canelo has been fighting. So they told me that they didn’t want me to come out there”.

“I mean, they would probably have thought I was gonna go back to Golovkin and save stuff and style, but honestly, I wouldn’t know I would have kept it for myself. I mean, I’m not that type of fighter. I don’t go to a camp and then try to expose another fighter.”

Further, he added it would affect nothing. As he was then just 19 years old. And if the Mexican had given him a chance, then it would have been a wonderful experience.

Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin had gone toe-to-toe twice in their careers. They fought the first epic battle in 2017.
