This weekend, former super-middleweight champ David Benavidez will lock horns with Kyrone Davis in a 10-round fight. Originally, Benavidez was set to lock horns with Jose Uzcategui. However, as Uzcategui tested positive for a banned substance, Kyrone Davis took up this fight.

For now, it’s clear that this fight won’t be for a title eliminator, nor does it guarantee the winner a shot towards the undisputed champ, Canelo Alvarez. However, this bout holds some weight to its name and the winner will surely get a step closer to a title shot.

Coming into this fight, the undefeated Benavidez is an obvious favorite with aggressive fight skills. As he has been successful in the past, he will see no reason to deviate from a tried and tested formula.

On the other hand, Davis has yet to show his best version. However, if he chooses this weekend to do so, he could have the attention of Canelo Alvarez.

Benavidez vs Davis: Preview

This fight is important for both men. However, it’s extremely vital for ‘El Bandera Roja’ as he has been calling for a fight against Canelo for years. That said, here, he will have the opportunity to vanquish Davis and place himself on top for a fight against the p4p star.

In the last news conference of this fight, Benavidez said, “I’m not thinking about Canelo.”

“I’m just thinking about Kyrone Davis. I’m excited to give my fans a good show. I worked extremely hard for this fight and trained like it was for a world title.”

“I’m ready for whoever they want to give me to fight next.” (h/t Boxing Junkie)
