After Terence Crawford defeated his rival, and Canelo Alvarez won his recent victory against Charlo, a fight between the two was rumored. Crawford himself proposed the idea of facing the Mexican fighter. However, he demanded that the fight does not happen in the super-middleweight division but at a catchweight. Meanwhile, Alvarez has not given a decisive response to this call-out.

Is Crawford vs. Benavidez a possibility?

Think of the potential incentives for Benavidez to face Crawford. One of them is a financial incentive. Another incentive is to prove himself against another great. When asked about this potential match-up, Benavidez had nothing but respect for the American Champion. At the same, his respect does not prevent him from scrapping it out in the ring, and considers it an honor.

Reflecting on the same, in an interview with FightHypeTV, he stated, “Yeah, that’ll be dope. I have a lot of respect for Terence Crawford. Just cuz I want a fight, if we were to fight, doesn’t mean we have hard feelings for each other. He is definitely a great fighter. I would love to fight him.”

At the end of the day, a fight requires the willingness of both fighters. In this instant case, Benavidez is willing to face the undefeated welterweight champion. So long as Crawford agrees, this fight may be on the cards. However, there is a significant weight disparity between the two which would pose a challenge.

David Benavidez on the weight disparity between him and Crawford

Crawford competes at a couple of weight divisions below Benavidez. Benavidez would be keener to see Crawford move up in weight, however, only till the junior middleweight division. As a fan, he would like to see him face the champion of the division, Jermell Charlo. In the same interview, he added, “Yea, to be honest, I would love to see him fight Charlo. The one at 154. That would be a great fight. At the end of the day, I’m a fan of boxing and those are the fights I want to see.”
