The former world heavyweight champion, David Haye, takes on Joe Fournier on Saturday, September 11. The duo will fight on the undercard of the Oscar De La Hoya vs Vitor Belfort professional boxing bout. However, unlike the main event, the Haye vs Fournier bout will not be a professional bout as the California State Commission has ruled the fight as an exhibition fight.

This means they will not have the result of this match on their professional records. Even if David Haye ends up beating Joe Fournier, the latter will remain undefeated as a professional.

Promoters originally scheduled the fight for eight three-minute rounds. However, with the California State Commissions’ new ruling, the fight will now comprise eight two-minute rounds. Furthermore, the fighters will wear 12oz gloves.

Both of them are good friends outside the ring and had originally agreed to the fight on a drunk night in Mykonos.

“This fight is the ultimate battle of egos, the outcome of some drunken bar banter,” Haye had said. “Now I have to teach some manners to a dear (but delusional) friend of mine Joe Fournier.”

“A reminder to Joe that his best boxing achievement is being ranked No.10 in the world by the WBA whilst holding the WBA international belt at light-heavyweight, five years ago.”

Meanwhile, Joe Fournier, who feels he can upset the former World Champion David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye, will look to fight bigger fights after the Haye matchup.

“I’m going to beat David and if I do, why can’t I fight Floyd Mayweather? He fought Logan Paul and I have more integrity than him if I beat David… If I beat David the upside is huge so why wouldn’t I do it? I have nothing to lose. I’m going up two divisions to fight a superstar and if I beat him people will take me seriously as a real boxer.”
