DAZN is looking to buy their fellow broadcaster BT Sport. In a bid to establish a strong foothold in the UK, DAZN will look to broadcast Premier League matches. The English Premier League is the most-watched and the most popular football league in the world.

Taking over the rights for the Premier League by buying BT Sport would make DAZN one of the biggest broadcasters in the nation. Just earlier this year, DAZN signed a five-year deal with Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn to cover their boxing events. Hence, this shows their intent to wipe out the competition.

“We would love to have EPL ultimately, how we get there, there are many paths to get there. I’m philosophical about it, whatever makes most sense. BT Sport is a great business.” DAZN chairman Kevin Mayer said when asked about DAZN buying BT Sport.

Currently, BT Sport holds the rights to some of the most-watched events in the UK. The Champions League, English Premier League, Europa League, and the Gallagher Premiership rugby.

Such a takeover would mean a change in the ownership clause for which the Premier League will have to be asked for approval. Hence, there is a chance that ‘The Netflix of Sport’ may become the place to watch boxing matches as well for fans in the UK.

If they do end up acquiring the rights to the Premier League and BT Sport, it will only be a matter of time until they secure deals for other major boxing and sports event broadcasting rights in the UK. Hence, the viewing experience for boxing fans may change completely.
