In an exceptional show of performance, the legend Canelo Alvarez defended his undisputed title for the third time. The Mexican superstar won the bout via a unanimous decision against Jermell Charlo on Saturday night. He even made Mell take a knee in the third round of the bout, proving his superiority in the division. However, an old foe has shown interest in disrupting Canelo’s reign.

Canelo fought the boxer in 2021 at MGM Grand Garden Arena. ‘Cinnamon’ tarnished his undefeated title in the eleventh round via technical knockout. Not sure who that is yet? Well, it’s Caleb Plant! Plant is known for his fast hands, but that could not help Caleb ‘Sweethands’ Plant take down Canelo. However, if his recent interview is any evidence, Plant seems to think he is ready to put an end to the storm that is Canelo Alvarez.

Caleb Plant states ‘Canelo Alvarez is a great fighter’

While appearing in an interview with Fight Hype TV, the interviewer asked Plant about what’s in the future for him. Responding to the question, the first name Caleb came up with was Canelo’s. “I mean, I definitely want to run it back with Canelo…um, he is a great fighter. I’ve always said that you know,” Caleb told Fight Hype.

Justifying his claim for a rematch against the Mexican superstar, Caleb stated, “Not taking anything away from him, but I’m a great fighter too.” Later in the interview, Caleb revealed his current focus is on a fight against Jermall Charlo.

However, the interviewer informed Caleb about Jermall’s fight against Jose Benavidez on 25 November. Caleb claimed that if Jermall wants to “tune up” before fighting Plant, he can also get a fight before facing Jermall. But what started the spark of a potential bout between Caleb and Jermall?

Caleb Plant’s slap fiasco with Jermall Charlo

During the Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr. fight in July of this year, Caleb hit Jermall with a clean left hook. Reportedly, the altercation arose from Jermall invading Caleb’s personal space, offending him in the process. Since that moment, a potential bout between the two boxers has been making the headlines.
