Canelo Alvarez sent shock waves in the boxing fraternity with his stupendous win over Caleb Plant. With his sensational performance, Alvarez even became the first man to hold all the titles at the 168-pound landscape.

Immediately after that, Alvarez stirred the fight universe with an announcement of his move up to the Cruiserweight roster. Many expected him to move to the light heavyweight landscape again. However, Alvarez will box at a weight class that has its upper limit at 200 lbs.

Many appreciated this move by the Mexican superstar. However, some of his rivals fairly criticized this move. Demetrius Andrade was one such boxer. He spoke to iFL TV about Canelo Alvarez.

He said, “There’s a famous quote that goes, ‘You’re a champion, but you don’t fight nobody.’ That’s what Canelo said to me. He’s a champion and now look what he’s showing – he’s fighting nobodies.” (h/t Michael Benson)

Over the past 11 months, Alvarez set his focus on capturing every belt in the 168-pound division. Consequently, he traced his aspiration and beat the likes of Callum Smith, Avni Yildirim, Billy Joe Saunders, and finally, Caleb Plant.

After his last win, many boxing lovers also wished to see Canelo take on the likes of David Benavidez and more. However, he opted to chase a belt in a fifth division and elected to fight WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu.

Hence, that will be his sole focus until May.

For now, Alvarez will dedicate some time for his own self and rest as much as he can. Given his exertions over the past 11 months, he definitely needs it before making his cruiserweight bow.
