Wilder also suffered a broken hand during his fight with Fury, which might have delayed his return. But now his promoter Frank Warren has revealed Wilder will return to the squared circle this October.

Frank Warren reveals Wilder’s next opponent

There were many heavyweight contenders who called out Wilder for a fight, including Andy Ruiz Jr, Joe Joyce, and Derek Chisora, with Joyce being the most likely option. However, in an interview with TalkSport, Warren stated that Wilder would not take on Joyce, even though he did want to make that fight happen.

” I’d love to do that fight, but he’s [Deontay] coming off a bad knockout. There’s no doubt about that was a bad knockout against Tyson Fury who was a tough fight for him,” he told the reporter.

He then revealed that Wilder would be returning this October and named his next opponent. “Deontay is fighting in October; he’s coming back, and they’re talking about him fighting Robert Helenius, and that’ll be in the States,” he added.

It looks like The Bronze Bomber will face Finnish boxer Robert Helenius next on his path to regain heavyweight gold once again.

Deontay Wilder vs Robert Helenius

Helenius is a 38-year-old boxer who has been competing in the heavyweight division since 2008. He has a record of 31-3 with 20 KOs under his belt. Moreover, he is currently on a 3 fight win streak and has wins over Adam Kownacki, Erkan Teper, and Mateus Roberto Osorio.

Wilder, on the other hand, will be the heavy favorite to win coming into the fight. He has a record of 42-2-1 with a staggering 41 KO victories and his only losses coming at the hands of Tyson Fury.

However, this could be a great fight for the former champion to regain some of his lost form, after his loss to The Gypsy King and the Finnish boxer does pose some threat to Wilder as he is a veteran in the sport who is not one to be taken lightly.
