A potential title win in the cruiserweight division will turn Canelo Alvarez into a five-division world champion. The 31-year-old looks likely to challenge Ilunga Makabu for his WBC 200 lbs strap on returning to action. Meanwhile, some people envision him exploring the heavyweight division in the future.
Alvarez may not have the biggest physical frame, but Deontay Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott has given the P4P king a chance. In a chat with ES News, Scott said, “I think there’s heavyweights, Canelo can beat. It depends on what heavyweight he is in with. Cause from what I have been hearing, he is actually sparring [Frank] Sanchez”

As the P4P king currently fights at 168 lbs, a move to the heavyweight division will be massive. Although it may not happen soon, the 31-year-old can clearly consider it in the future.
As of now, Alvarez, who holds the undisputed super-middleweight title, may have to defend or vacate the belts on shifting divisions.
From middleweights to cruiserweights, he can come across several valid names. However, as it seems Canelo Alvarez isn’t interested in moving down further, fans can expect him to box at 175 lbs or 200 lbs in 2022. That said, Alvarez has a lot of options open.
Canelo Alvarez can have a massive 2022
The Mexican superstar saw a busy year in 2021 with three title fights on board. After defending his mandatory belts against Avni Yildirim in February, Alvarez beat Billy Joe Saunders in May and Caleb Plant in November to grab hold of all four world titles. He then revealed that he would take a rest.

Although Makabu and Alvarez have already faced off for their potential scrap, the P4P king can also enter the 175 lbs division. Considering that the light heavyweight unit will also offer him some tough tests, Canelo might be intrigued to accept and conquer them in 2022.
