In what was an exciting battle between two of the best boxers to ever step inside the boxing ring, Oleksandr Usyk passed his first real test against a seasoned veteran in the form of Derek Chisora to become the new interim WBO Intercontinental heavyweight champion of the world. In the process, Usyk snapped Chisora’s three-fight win-streak and pushed his undefeated boxing record to 18-0. However, many boxing fans felt that Chisora did enough to dethrone Oleksandr Usyk to earn his shot at the WBO title.
“I feel great but just disappointed,” Chisora said.
Derek Chisora came in strong in the first few rounds, landing several significant punches on the undefeated boxer. While an argument can be made that Usyk was the better fight in the later rounds, Chisora continued to apply pressure throughout the 12 rounds of the title fight.

“I was pushing the pace, yeah, I gave a couple of rounds away. But I was pushing the pace. Well, the judges saw it in a different way,” Chisora said, visibly upset about the judges’ decision. He further added that his southpaw stance and body shots made the difference in the fight, and the decision should have gone his way.
It was a competitive fight, and it’s hard not to agree with Derek Chisora. The boxing veteran pressured Usyk for the better part of the full 12 rounds. However, Usyk was more calculative with his strikes and kept Chisora guessing as the veteran pushed for a finish.

The Ukrainian boxer has been the mandatory WBO heavyweight challenger for Anthony Joshua for quite some time now.
However, owing to Joshua’s upcoming IBF title defense against Kubrat Pulev, and the hugely anticipated showdown against Tyson Fury in 2022, Usyk could not land a title fight.
The Ukrainian fighter took a huge risk going against boxing veteran Chisora, and he looked incredible in his first real test at the heavyweight division.
