Derrick James in a recent interview with BoxingScene recalls the time when he was interrupted by a third party while talking to Kell Brook early this year.

The incident took place a couple of days, ahead of the Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder rematch. While Brook and James were at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, they were interrupted by Terence Crawford who wanted to talk to Brook regarding a potential fight.

“We’re talking and, all of a sudden, Terence Crawford walks up. And they start talking about fighting. Terence was like, ‘Do you think you can make the weight?’ I think they’re trying to fight at 147,” said James as he recalls the incident.

Crawford’s WBO welterweight title would be at stake if the pair decide to go toe to toe against each other. However, it has been a couple of years since his last fight at welterweight. Brook’s last fight at the 147-pound division was against Errol Spence Jr. where he suffered a knockout in the 11th round.

The Special One has been competing at the junior middleweight ever since his loss to Spence. However, Brook insists that he can make 147-pounds for the kind of fight that the unbeaten champion would put up.

“I think it should be a pretty interesting fight. This will be the best fighter that Terence Crawford has ever fought, without a doubt. I think Terence should be able to beat him, but you never know. It could possibly be more competitive than people think.” said Derrick James as he opens up about a potential fight.

Several fans and boxing pundits often criticize the undefeated three-division champion for picking up fighters that are at a lower level of opposition to his fellow welterweight champions.

After moving up to the welterweight division back in 2018 to challenge Jeff Horn, Crawford has taken on 3 title challengers and emerged victorious by way of knock out in all three bouts.

Crawford was looking to make his way back to the ring ahead of the Coronavirus epidemic. However, his return has seen an indefinite delay.

Crawford taking on Brook in the future is a real possibility. And the fight would undoubtedly be one of the most difficult fights of his career.
