Bloodied and battered, John Ryder was left with a broken nose after the fight against Canelo Alvarez concluded in May last year. Yet, he wants another shot at the Mexican superstar after he is done with Jaime Munguía on 27 January. Even though he succumbed to Canelo’s superior skills, the bloody brawl earned him something greater.

He won the hearts of every fan present in the Estadio Akron stadium in Zapopan, Mexico. While appearing in an interview with Fight Hub TV today, the Londoner claimed he wants to make it to the top of the division. According to Ryder, the only way there is through a rematch with the reigning undisputed champion of the middleweight division.

John Ryder claims he learned a lot from the fight against Canelo Alvarez

Discussing Ryder’s upcoming clash with Munguía, the reporter pressed him to elaborate on the reason behind his belief in producing a win. ‘The Gorilla’ claimed, “I want to go out at the top. And I want to get my rematch with Canelo.” The reporter was left dumbfounded, hearing Ryder’s resolve to avenge his loss, asking him if he was confident about producing a win a second time. 

“Yeah, I’d love to. I think I learned a lot about myself – and I learned a lot being in there with him,” Ryder quickly responded. He went on to claim if he hadn’t suffered injury on his nose during the fight, it could have looked a lot different. “I think if I could have had my chance again and obviously the nose not breaking, it could have been a hell of a different fight,” said Ryder. However, Ryder isn’t the only one vying for a fight against Canelo.

Jaime Munguía on potential fight against Canelo 

In an interview with Fight Hub TV on 17 January, Munguía shed light on where he is at potentially sealing the deal with Canelo Alvarez. When the reporter probed the undefeated Mexican boxer about the fight, Munguía suggested, “We had a couple of talks.” He went on to claim that the deal hadn’t been officially signed. But after the Ryder fight – things might pick up.

“Nothing formal. No paperwork, no nothing. But hopefully, after this fight, we can see. We’ll be more than glad to do it,” said Munguía. However, before either fighter gets a shot at fighting the undisputed middleweight king, one has to come out victorious in the upcoming fight at Footprint Center, Phoenix, Arizona.
