The transition from ‘Kid Dynamite’ to ‘The Baddest Man on The Planet’ has undoubtedly made Mike Tyson one of the living legends in the world of boxing. While Tyson was a formidable wrecking machine, many fighters have wished to share the ring with him. Meanwhile, one individual who got this opportunity was the heavyweight phenom, Tyson Fury. However, Fury once revealed why he did not take up the offer.

‘Iron’ Mike announced in 2020 that he wished to come out of retirement for an exhibition showdown. While on a fight quest, an offer was made to Fury.

Notably, ‘The Gypsy King‘ was fresh off a sensational decision victory against Otto Wallin, at that time.

Tyson Fury declines the offer to fight Mike Tyson

Tyson Fury was in an interview with iFL TV after his second fight against Deontay Wilder. It should also be mentioned that this was the time when there were speculations about Roy Jones Jr. being Mike Tyson’s potential opponent. In conversation, the reporter asked him about the potential offer he received for the fight.

Fury responded that he was contacted by Tyson and his team via FaceTime with an offer to fight.

Delving into the details, he continued, “Nothing ever materialized with it. You know they come back with some money. Someone who was offering the money to Mike. Came back and offered us peanuts, completely.”

Fury further added, “Mike Tyson was talking to me like 500 million figures and stuff. And what was offered, like what came back on paper was like, okay this is garbage. Okay, this has got to be a joke, this is crazy. So nothing really happened.”

Fury also mentioned that he had a USD 10 million offer from ESPN to do an exhibition fight. But everyone had moved on from the potential matchup by then.

Tyson went on to face Roy Jones Jr.

With Fury out of the picture, it was announced in July 2020, that Tyson had signed a contract with Roy Jones Jr. It was reported that the fight saw over 1.6 million pay-per-view buys.

Tyson went on to face Jones Jr. at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on November 28, 2020. Moreover, many notable names like Jake Paul and Badou Jack were present as a part of the undercard.

The fight however ended in a split draw.
