In the interview, Haney said, “There’s a lot of big fights in the lightweight division. Teofimo Lopez is the one with the rest of the belts. So that’s the main fight that I want to make happen.” This showed that he wants to set things straight with the WBC franchise champion.

This is not the first time that a fight between the two has been touted. Teofimo Lopez had said that he wants to fight Devin Haney after his victory over Vasyl Lomachenko. He believed that it was the fight to make and he would destroy ‘The Dream’s’ career. Bill Haney, Devin Haney’s father and trainer, also got involved and said that they want Teofimo Lopez next.

When could we see Devin Haney fight Teofimo Lopez?

Teofimo Lopez revealed that he sustained an injury in the Lomachenko fight and will be out for six weeks. Haney is just coming off a tough 12-round fight with Gamboa. So it will be a while before any talk of this potential match up materializes. Fans can look towards mid-2021 as a potential time-frame for this super fight.

However, will Teofimo Lopez want to fight Haney after that performance is a totally different question. ‘The Dream’ was certain he would knock Gamboa out and finish the fight.

He kept reiterating that he would go all out and not hold back. However, he was unable to do so. Though it was a comprehensive performance, Haney’s display following his pre-fight promises was a letdown.

So it will be interesting to see if Lopez will take up that fight against Haney, especially when there are other opponents. Do you see the Haney vs Lopez fight taking place?
