Devin Haney has finally responded to Teofimo Lopez’s comments about being a two-time email champion. The WBC lightweight champion has not held back when asked about the new champion in the lightweight division. Lopez said a lot about Devin Haney after his victory over Vasyl Lomachenko, to which Haney had paid little attention. However, the 21-year-old has finally responded.
Speaking to the press ahead of his fight against Yuriorkis Gamboa, Haney said, “He knows he doesn’t feel right without fighting me for the real ‘undisputed’ everything, all the belts. He knows he’s not ‘undisputed’ without fighting me.” The champion added, “He can say email or whatever. He didn’t get the email.”

For boxing fans, the lightweight division is one of the most exciting in the sport. Ever since Lopez beat Lomachenko, there have been talks of a potential fight against Haney.
In the post-fight press conference, when Teofimo Lopez was asked who he would like to fight next, he said Devin Haney. However, he referred to him as ‘2x email world champion’ which sparked a certain amount of bad blood between the two fighters.
When could Devin Haney fight Teofimo Lopez?
Realistically, the fight between Lopez and Haney will surely happen. However, the only question is when will the two meet? Haney needs to get past a tough challenge against Gamboa this weekend. Lopez, on the other hand, has suffered an injury and will be out until 2021. Fans will be hoping that the matchup could happen as the next fight for both fighters. Hence, 2021 would be an ideal date for Haney vs Lopez.

‘The Dream’ has made no secret of his desire to fight Lopez, neither has Lopez, to fight Haney. When this is the case, fights are easier to make. Despite this, when one considers the belt situation, the problem of mandatory challengers may arise.
Furthermore, Matchroom Boxing and Top Rank are both known to be notoriously difficult to deal with in terms of negotiation. Fans will be hoping that a fight between these two champions comes sooner rather than later.
