Five years ago, Devin Haney, the current WBC lightweight champion, made his professional debut against a promising Gonzalo Lopez Rodriguez and began his career with a sensational knockout win.

While he is set to defend his title against an alarming Yuriorkis Gamboa this weekend, Haney is still undefeated and boats a clean resume of 24 wins. At 21, he is already one of the best lightweight boxers. That said, Haney’s father always knew that he will be a shining superstar. Although, he also admits that Devin Haney was a notorious and energetic kid back in the day.

Prior to ‘The Dream’s’ upcoming title defense against Gamboa, his father shared an interesting incident about his childhood. While Haney’s father has trained him all the life, he laughs while sharing the incident from the past.

‘Dream’ Devin Haney was the baddest

The official social media handle of DAZN has recently posted a video clip, showcasing some of the best punches by the ‘Dream.’ Taking out 15 of his 24 opponents via knockout, Devin Haney is one of the hard-hitting lightweights of the world. Meanwhile, he is also technically sound and can put a lot of damage.

No wonder his father calls him one of the “baddest” persons in the room. Speaking in a recent interview, Haney’s father/trainer said, “I wanted kids to beat him up because I didn’t wanna go to jail because he was the baddest (laughs).”

Haney is clearly the favorite against Gamboa, leading the odds by a huge margin. While his WBC world title will be put on the line, Haney’s undefeated record will also be at stake.

If Gamboa vanquishes him this weekend, it will be one of the biggest upsets of the lightweight division. The 12-round main event fight will take place in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida, hosted by the Matchroom boxing.

The outcome of the contest will help to picture the future of the stacked lightweight roster. No doubt fight fans are highly excited about the upcoming lightweight thriller.
